NBA EXPANSION DRAFT, 2026

ABOUT THE COMMITTEE

All talk, no action. Until now.

For years, the National Basketball Association has debated adding expansion teams, floating ideas about where and when. Some point to cities that once had teams, others argue the potential of untapped new markets, yet no matter what, everyone has something to say–from fans to players to the Commissioner. So what happens when that day finally arrives? Well, delegates, it has.

This committee opens in the offseason following the 2025–26 season, as the league prepares to welcome its newest franchises. The current 2026-27 rosters will be the primary rosters used for this committee. Delegates will represent front office executives, coaches, players, media personalities, and more as they shape the future of the NBA at one of the most pivotal moments in its history. You’ll decide how expansion teams build their rosters and which players they get, fight over poached staff, spark new rivalries, and handle whatever unexpected twists come your way.

Through unique committee mechanics that twist both Crisis and General Assembly parliamentary procedure, delegates will tackle what it truly means to set the NBA up for success, and respond to an array of problems they could never have imagined!

CHAIR

EMMA BEST

Emma Best (She/Her) is a third-year from Ithaca, New York, double-majoring in International Relations and Global Health Studies with a minor in Business Law, on the Pre-Law Track. She has been a part of Miami MUN for 3 years and has competed, run, and staffed numerous conferences across the circuit. Emma is also serving as the 2026-2027 Head Delegate and President for Miami Model UN.

Outside of MUN, Emma is on the Executive Board for multiple clubs around campus, her favorites being Habitat for Humanity and UHRF. In what little free time she has when she’s not travelling a million miles for a conference, or running the diabolically late meetings with the team, she enjoys whipping her drop-top as old as her and listening to bangers, exploring new restaurants and cafes around Miami, and HIKING everything–mountains, national parks, or even what little hills count in Florida!

Emma is an avid basketball fan, and has spent far too many hours watching the NBA, playing 2k, cooking everyone in fantasy, and of course…trash talking. Fun fact: she actually almost committed to college for basketball instead of choosing to study at UM, so this committee she holds very near and dear to her heart!

As last year’s Director-General for the team’s collegiate conference, Emma is extremely excited to be changing sides and running the NBA Expansion Draft, 2026 for MICSUN XIV. See you all soon! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact her at eeb163@miami.edu.
