about the committee

The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) is an organization tasked with advancing programs and setting global standards, promoting equal opportunities, and fostering international cooperation to eliminate systemic barriers to gender equality. In this committee, delegates will engage in debate surrounding one of the most vital and layered challenges of the modern world: persistent inequality in society, exemplified by disparities in the workforce and representation in the push for sustainable development.

Across regions, women continue to face structural barriers that limit their economic security, leadership opportunities, and participation in shaping global priorities. These inequalities play a major role in unequal access to resources, underrepresentation in crucial decision-making roles, and disproportionate vulnerability to emerging global challenges. Persistent inequality in society undermines progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 5 on gender equality and SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth, while also intersecting with SDG 13 on climate action. These problems not only undermine individual dignity and opportunity, but they also weaken the collective push toward inclusivity and sustainable futures.

In this committee, delegates will be tasked with examining the roots of systemic inequality and exploring practical strategies that will empower women across the globe in both environmental and economic sectors. Debate will focus on how international cooperation, national policy, and community‑level initiatives can be aligned to dismantle barriers, promote fairness, and strengthen resilience. Delegates in this committee should strive to craft actionable solutions that advance the UN Women’s missions of equality and empowerment, while prioritizing diplomacy in pursuit of lasting change.
